清明 (Qīngmíng) , April 4, 2025.  “Pure Brightness,” arrives when spring light turns clear and the air grows fresh. The earth is washed clean by spring rains, and green shoots spread across the fields. Traditionally, this is a time for honoring ancestors and reconnecting with the quiet continuity of life. Nature invites us to step outside, to walk slowly beneath blossoming trees, and to let clarity settle into body and mind.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qīngmíng is a moment of transition: the Liver thrives as spring growth peaks, while the Lungs are gently awakened by fresh breezes. To keep harmony, we nourish both with light, refreshing foods. Pears, spinach, celery, and young greens help move Liver Qi smoothly and clear excess heat, while a warm bowl of rice congee or light fish soup strengthens digestion. Green tea or chrysanthemum tea supports clarity, cooling the eyes and easing tension.

Simple practices—like mindful walking, breathing deeply into the chest, or gentle stretching—align our inner rhythm with nature’s clarity. By opening windows and refreshing our spaces, we mirror the cleansing energy of this term.

Qīngmíng reminds us that brightness is not only around us but also within us. By caring for our body with mindful foods and practices, we invite that same brightness to guide us through the season.
